POEM: PROMISE YOURSELF

I’ve always been an avid lover of quotes, all things meaningful and the likes.

Words are such powerful things! They are able to move people, bring about emotions, able to create joy, sadness, awareness, and also empathy. I get hooked onto words very easily, and love seeping through words of wisdom from people who has been through much in life.

Hence, thought I’d create a category of quotes in my blog. It won’t be a category of just any quotes, but ones I’ve come across to really like, hence it’d be a selective pick from various sources as and when I come across them.

One of my faithful sources would be from this ‘Daily Contemplation’ I’ve been subscribing to for a few years now, where I receive one quote per day in my email inbox. The one below caught my heart instantly, it’s titled Promise Yourself.

Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

— Christian Daa Larson (1874-1954)

For starters, I’ll try to look at the sunny side of everything, okay? I know I can be a bit of a whiner at times… Haha. And to focus so much on improving myself that I’d have no time at all to find faults in anything or anyone! Sigh, know you’re thinking it’s so easy to just say, but… I promise I’ll try!

Hope this poem kick-started some sort of inspiration to y’all in uplifting/ be a better human being, as it did to me 🙂
